Norwich care provider continues to grow after successful first inspection

Norwich-based Nouveau Care Ltd, a provider of domiciliary care, looks after patients across Norfolk and Suffolk from its base in the city’s Ber Street.

And the company has continued to grow since its first successful inspection by the regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC), made towards the end of 2017.

It was set up by Thomas Smith, a former engineer in the gas and oil sector who has long held affiliation with the care industry through family and friends, and he grew interested in the poor pay and working conditions some carers faced nationally. He set up Nouveau Care after a redundancy in 2015.

His passion for the industry is shared by registered manager Nasnine Ragu, with whom Smith co-founded Nouveau Care. With five years’ experience in the sector, Ragu has an honours degree in health studies, and is completing a Level 5 diploma in care leadership and management as part of her registration with the CQC.

The business has private and public sector clients, and growth has been particularly marked in the last six months since social services from Norfolk County Council were added to its portfolio.

There are currently 10 trained carers working for Nouveau Care, all of them subject to regular official standards checks.

Thomas Smith, owner of Nouveau Care Ltd, said: “We believe that by paying carers more fairly, we provide a better service to the people we look after. Longer term, we’d like more ‘back of house’ staff.

“Generally speaking, we also believe caring for people at home rather than in a residential setting is cost-effective and preferable, both for service users and their families.”

Nouveau Care supports both older and younger adults, including those who are living with dementia or sensory impairments, or a physical disability.
