Norwich care provider marks Dementia Action Week

Nouveau Care Ltd, providing domiciliary care in Norfolk and Suffolk from its HQ in Norwich’s Ber Street, is underlining the importance of patient care for Dementia Action Week, which runs from May 20 to 26.

The company passed its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in 2017 and has grown significantly since then, with public and private sector clients including Norfolk County Council’s social services department.

The business offers care to adults of all ages, including those with a physical disability or sensory impairments, and has 10 employees.

Owner Thomas Smith said: “Many of those we look after have dementia, so it's a cause close to our hearts. We’re marking Dementia Action Week and would love everyone to use the occasion to think about this challenging, complex condition. We know how important the quality of care patients receive is."

Nouveau Care Ltd feels that caring for people in their homes, instead of a care home environment, is better for those receiving care, their families, and is more cost-effective overall.

The CQC praised the business for the care it offered, describing it as ‘flexible, responsive and person-centred’. In particular, it commended the care provided near the end of clients’ lives, describing this as ‘sensitive and kind’.

Smith added: “We’re looking to grow long term, with more ‘back of house’ employees, plus a registered care manager.”

Dementia Action Week aims to bring together workplaces, communities and schools to take positive action to enhance the lives of those who have the condition. The Alzheimer’s Society says this starts with a simple chat with someone with dementia.
