25 The Lifetime Under Achievement Award celebrates their 25 years of making indie pop and disrupting the music industry.
The band formed in 1998 whilst working at Tower Records in London. They have since released 76 albums including their previous album Vegetal Digital of which there is only 1 copy on sale on vinyl for £1 million!!!
The band started campaigning for fairer royalties from streaming with a series of 30 second song albums - the idea behind it was Spotify and co pay out a royalty after 30 secs and as it's so small why write longer songs - this campaign is featured in their recent film - Inspired The 30 Second Song Story which is out now on Tubi, Plex and Youtube.
The band currently hold 3 official Guinness World Records for the world's longest song (A Quantum Christmas ...just 4.5 days long!), most tracks on an album (1000! on Nobody Makes Money Anymore) and for the most studio albums released (75 ) which makes them the most prolific band of the digital age!
So they may have not quite made it but they have ruffled a few feathers along their way!
Front person - Mark Christopher Lee states:
‘We see a lot of musicians and artists being fearful of AI and what it may do to their careers but I say worry about those shop or factory workers who will lose their jobs that’s a real fear but we’ve been using computers and AI to some extent for a while in recording music, there’s no reason to see it as a threat but it can be a useful tool in the creative process - as these 2 albums show in our opinion you can’t recreate the complexity of the creative mind with AI and you definitely can’t recreate that rock n roll rebellious spirit that has always driven popular music.’
