Educators Request More Support for Covid Teachers' Mental Health

A company offering academic tuition for children is advocating for more awareness about the adverse effects that the coronavirus pandemic has had on the mental health of teachers.

Nurture Learning UK is an organisation specialising in academic support for children, however, it has now made it its mission to raise awareness about the effects that covid-19 has had on the adults offering that support.

Throughout the pandemic, the main focus of the Department for Education and the education industry has been the care of children. The mental health of the teachers, tutors and support staff, though, has been almost entirely overlooked.

Recent findings from Education Report, a charity dedicated to improving the mental health of teachers, reveal that the mental health of over half of school teachers in the UK has suffered due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Anna Kersley, Director for Nurture Learning UK Ltd said: “It's incredibly important to remember that teachers are doing their best and trying their hardest to ensure their students are supported and cared for during these difficult times. Stress and anxiety affect teachers as well as students.”

She added: “I'm sure there are many teachers out there who say their mental health has declined during the pandemic for a variety of reasons. They may be in the vulnerable category. We must not overlook the wellbeing of our educators.”

About Nurture Learning UK

Nurture Learning strategies are built upon the importance of the role of the adult in the room. Mental Health in education cannot be the latest buzz word or a token gesture mindfulness exercise at the beginning of the day. Our teachers must be better supported with a toolkit of ways to protect their own wellbeing in order to be in the best position to pass these important self-care strategies onto the children that they teach.
