Imperial College student awarded Sue Britton Bursary

A student at Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine has been awarded the Sue Britton Bursary. Sue Britton was a double-lung transplantee who passed away in 2020. She had worked in occupational health for many years.

To those who knew her, Sue embodied the most positive disposition and held humanity (and her two dogs) in the highest regard.

The bursary award is made annually in Sue’s name by Occupational Health Assessment Ltd, to a medical student who has shown exceptional courage in the face of difficult circumstances.

This years’ recipient, Ms. Oishi Sikdar, is a final year medical student at Imperial College London. Oishi was chosen as the recipient by Sue’s family.

“When I was 13 my dad became ill, and I realised the transformative impact a caring and skilled doctor can have on people. Since then it’s been my dream to touch lives in that same way” said Oishi.

“Medical school has been the most rewarding journey, and through it I’ve made some incredible friends and memories. It has not been without its challenges, however, and when I too became sick last year, I wasn’t sure if I would even be able to continue studying.”

“After taking some time out and adapting to my new way of living, I am now really looking forward to becoming a doctor.”

“Next year I’ll be at King’s doing a Paediatric Academic Foundation post and I hope that will be the start of a long career where I can improve many young lives” she said.

“We are proud to be able to make an annual award in Sue’s name and Oishi is an incredibly worthy recipient. We wish her every success in her future career as a doctor” said Magnus Kauders, Managing Director, Occupational Health Assessment Ltd.
