Graduate that Recession drove to Freelancing Becomes Freelancer of the Year

Industrial Product Design graduate, Tom Kolodotschko, deterred by the poor prospects of mainstream employment entered the freelancing world in 2009, and celebrated his 10 year anniversary by being crowned “Freelancer of the Year” at the YunoJuno SweetFA Awards.

Held at the celebrated Shoreditch Town Hall venue in London’s Hackney, the Awards attracted hundreds of successful self-employed businesses competing for recognition from the YunoJuno judges.

Commenting on his success, Tom Kolodotschko from OLO Creative, who also won the Design Award, said, “I am delighted to have won the Freelancer of the Year Award. YunoJuno has changed my working life in the way it helps me manage my business, leaving me simply to get on with my job, and to be recognised by them with the Award is amazing. I didn’t expect to win one award, let alone two.”

“I was almost forced into freelancing when I left Aston University in 2009, when the likelihood of getting a job with potential in Product Design, had a contention ratio of less than 1 in 350 per role. I had no great interest in designing widgets for the rest of my life so chose simply to back my own abilities, and I have never looked back”

Shib Mathew, Founder of YunoJuno added, “Tom represents the best in freelancing. Whether the assignment is for one day or one month he embeds himself into the team from the first minute, uses his experience to offer broad design disciplines rather than being confined to one area, and is always smiling. Suffice it to say he is always in demand and thoroughly deserves being recognised as the Freelancer of the Year.”

YunoJuno is the leading organisation providing a supported platform solution for freelancers, linking thousands each week with businesses looking for short term one-off assignments to be fulfilled, and looks after much of the administration often gets in the way of the freelancer’s day. The annual SweetFA’s have become the highlight of the year in the sector and attracted over 500 attendees on Friday 22 November.
