How much do you really want to stop smoking?

It's a very important question because if you don't really want to stop smoking then quitting will be very difficult for you! You just have to genuinely want to quit! It must be your own decision to stop smoking and you should be doing it for yourself, not for anyone else, otherwise it simply will not work. You have to want to stop smoking to succeed. Once you have decided to stop smoking, hypnotherapy can help enormously in overcoming the habit and building your confidence and motivation. Research consistently shows that people who are assisted by a hypnotherapist are much more likely to succeed in stopping smoking than those who try to quit by willpower alone. I have been told by past clients that they were amazed at how easy it was to stop smoking and how little they suffered from cravings.

Let me tell you more.

You are not addicted to cigarettes. You are addicted to your body unconscious respond to these cigarettes.

I think it's fascinating that within the mind of a smoker, it's like you have an anti-smoking lobby, and a pro-smoking lobby. The anti-smoking lobby is obvious and it's saying to you "No, what on earth are you doing? This is ridiculous! You are killing yourself! But you also have a pro-smoking lobby that if it's too strong, it’s difficult to tip the balance and just stop because the pro-smoking lobby says "sod it, nobody's going to tell me to stop smoking because I do enjoy it".

What's interesting is that if you take the logical part of the brain and use it to rationally analyse all of the messages from the pro-smoking lobby you realise that the collective term for all those reasons in the pro-smoking lobby is “bullshit”!

The most common piece of propaganda is around “Smoking helps me to relax or de-stress”. No it doesn’t! Not one of the 4000 chemicals in tobacco is a relaxant or reduces stress in any way. The chemicals that are there are stimulants and make you more stressed. In fact the research says that by the time a smoker gets to middle age, they're 80% more likely to suffer from clinical depression or serious anxiety as a direct result of their smoking.

The other frequently offered propaganda is that the smoking habit is so addictive. The pharmaceutical companies want you to believe that smoking is all about the physical addiction to nicotine because if that's true, you only need to get your nicotine from some other source and you will never smoke again. Unfortunately the patches, chewing gum and electronic cigarettes don't work. You can`t replace nicotine with nicotine. The scientists recognise that 10% of the smoking habit relates to the addictive elements of nicotine, 90% is psychological.

Hypnotherapy has the reputation for being the best way to quit smoking available, this is acknowledged by the British Medical Association. Even a small habit of smoking a few cigarettes a day can have a big effect on both finances and health.

The Stop Smoking method utilises hypnosis to reprogram your subconscious mind to understand that smoking is no longer a part of you. You were born a non-smoker and you are still a non-smoker it’s just that for a period of time this has been interrupted. Through hypnosis we will work together to remove those powerful cravings, and you will leave the two-hour session as a permanent non-smoker; Feeling calm, healthy and in control of your life again. Yes, it's that simple! No patch. No gum. No withdrawals. Instead you’ll immediately begin to enjoy the benefits of being a permanent 'Non-Smoker' such as better health.

Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand. I am not promising that all you have to do is go into a trance and you will resurface with a dislike of cigarettes. But I can assure you that if you really intend to quit smoking, hypnotherapy can make it a whole lot easier for you.

And remember…

First. No matter how long you've smoked for, quitting can help improve your health straightaway.

Second. You'll have much more cash in your pocket. If you smoke a packet a day, you could save around £250 each month!

And third. Quitting helps protect your loved ones from harmful second-hand smoke – reducing their risk of developing asthma, meningitis and some cancers.

I am more than happy to discuss how you could benefit from stopping smoking with hypnosis and tell you more about my own experiences.

I have a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma at The Clifton Practice (branch of the leading hypnotherapy clinic in South West. Hypnotherapy uses the application of hypnotic techniques to bring about therapeutic change and in a very pleasant and relaxing experience. I am using hypnotherapy to help you to make changes to your thoughts, feelings, habits or behaviours. Hypnotherapy is safe and natural; it feels just like daydreaming. In this state, your mind is able to take on board new ways of thinking and feeling at deep level. These changes happen easily and permanently. My motivation to practice mindfulness is a very simple – each moment missed is a moment unlived, each moment missed makes it more likely that I will miss the next moment and live through it cloaked in mindless habits of automaticity of thinking, feeling and doing rather than living in ,out of and through awareness. Expectations turn up in many forms – from what we expect of ourselves to what others expect of us and we of ourselves- good education- good career- family- children – own house.. As you learn to free yourself from these larger expectations, you can start to notice the smaller ones and not allow them to define your daily experience.Expectations assume a certain result and are future- based.
