Pinks Parlour Announces Exciting Charity Partnership

New local business Pinks Parlour have announced an exciting new partnership with local charity Dementia Support. Owners Katy and Georgia Alston have been working closely with the charity over the last few months and are delighted to announce the news following the opening of the parlour in May.

Pinks are often seen at the charity’s support centre Sage House in Tangmere supporting various events for people living with dementia and their carers; most recently Pinks team member Cassy visited with Rosey the tricycle for Sage House’s 1st birthday party.

Cassy has also taken part in Knit & Natter sessions at Sage House as part of the partnership’s Yarn Bomb Project - a huge knitting project where Pinks and Dementia Support asked the community to knit over 800 meters of bunting.

Cassy has a personal interest in the work the charity does as her grandmother had Alzheimer’s and was also a keen knitter.

The Yarn Bombing project had been delayed but both Pinks and Dementia Support are very excited to announce that this will now go ahead in September. Keep an eye out for some colour filling your local streets.

“This is a fantastic partnership” said Sally Tabbner, Dementia Support Chief Executive, “As a local charity we are always keen to team up with local businesses and support our community. Thanks to Pinks for this amazing opportunity. I’ll be making sure I pop in a few times for an ice cream!”

Pinks will also support the charity in their new parlour by donating 10p from every scoop sold of rum & raisin ice cream throughout the summer. The Pinks team are also becoming Dementia Friends and taking part in training that will make them more aware of customers who may have dementia; this will also make the parlour a dementia friendly venue.

As part of their dementia friendly ethos, Pinks Parlour will also hold ‘Chatter Tables’ for people living with dementia and their carers, proving a quiet space and advice about living with dementia.

The partnership comes just as Dementia Support has recently announced their £1million fundraising Wayfinder Appeal launch. The charity is aiming to expand its services and reach more families living with dementia in the local community.

Wayfinders are individuals who provide vital personalised guidance for people living with dementia and their families to “find their way” through the dementia journey, and by raising £1 million the charity can expand what it does to reach more and local people.
