Consumer confidence bucks trend for high street independents

Costa Coffee's owner released underwhelming results earlier this week, warning about the threat of independent coffee shops and a generally challenging economic environment after the Brexit vote. The Real Eating Company - a small independent chain with seven sites in the South East - can vouch for the impact that the independent is having. Helena Hudson, the owner, commented: "Independent business really does matter to a lot of people and we are seeing continued loyalty and support from our customers. People are obviously reining in their spending in our sector and confidence is clearly suffering with the on-going debate about Brexit and now the election, but our experience is that while café customers might cut back on the number of times they'll visit in a week, when they do want to spend on coffee or food, they want something really good and they want to support local businesses continue to make a difference in the high street".

About Real Eating Company Cafes

The Real Eating Company was created by Helena Hudson in January 2004. Helena moved to the South coast in 2001 and spotted the potential for a high-quality British casual dining café concept in the South East. Today, the Real Eating Company is a well-established business with seven sites across the South East. It is an entrepreneurially-minded business that is creating jobs for local people, sustaining local producers and most importantly, bringing great food and drink to its customers.
