Desserts craze should give way to more creative savouries

Desserts are great for treats, but healthy food can be fun and creative too, according to the fitness and training experts at Results Aimed Workouts.

At the start of British Food Fortnight (22nd Sept to 7th Oct), the team are spreading the word that the UK’s growing passion for evermore luxurious desserts would be better channelled into making savoury dishes more inventive.

Sam Ely, Director of Results Aimed Workouts (RAW), explained: “The headlines about the obesity and fitness crises in Britain seem to have been replaced by news of dessert cafes opening on every high street. Freak shakes, cream teas, piled high waffles and many other treats laded with fat and sugar are splashed across social media."

“As it’s British Food Fortnight, we wanted to remind people how fun it can be to cook with fresh local ingredients, and make healthy but creative meals that are nutritious!"

“It can seriously detract from exercise efforts, if you then have regular cheat days which turn in to cheat weekends, scoffing ‘munch’ and desserts.”

RAW promotes the three vital factors for health and wellbeing – a commitment to exercise, plenty of sleep and a healthy eating plan.

The highly inclusive fitness and training company in Kings Lynn encourages people to make gradual changes to your diet, switching to healthier options gradually, to keep it simple and make the transition fun.

Sam added: “We strongly challenge the popular myth that healthy food is bland and boring. The opposite is true! If you look beyond all the promotions for desserts and treats, there are plenty of imaginative and enjoyable recipes for great food. We regularly publish ideas on our website too, to encourage anyone who wants to combine exercise with delicious but nutritious food.”

The RAW Director concluded: "Winter is coming and British people tend to seek comfort food. This would be a great time to experiment with new food combinations and ideas that actually build up winter immunity, rather than piling on the pounds!”
