A Last Minute Mother's Day Gift Idea, from Courses and Clay

Mother’s Day has a habit of sneaking up on many of us, and it can be difficult to come up with a thoughtful last-minute gift when you’re short on time. One company may have the solution, offering a unique Mother’s Day experience which could be the start of something much bigger.

Courses and Clay are offering gift vouchers for offspring to give to their mothers to claim a taster course at one of their pottery sessions.

Courses and Clay owner Richard Wilks says: “These taster sessions are the perfect Mother’s Day gift, and a great chance for you and your Mum to spend time together and learn a new craft. The classes are deliberately kept small, which means I can give those who come along the real one-to-one attention they need to learn new skills and techniques. The result is that everyone has fun and you get to take away something unique at the end.

“I’ve been running the courses for over two and a half years now, and they’ve proved so popular I’m regularly fully booked weeks in advance. Mother’s Day is an excuse – if you needed one – to really treat your Mum, and nothing could be more enjoyable than getting stuck into clay modelling and getting creative!”

Before setting up Courses and Clay, Richard Wilks was an art teacher, National Theatre prop designer and worked on the set of wildly popular TV shows, including Dr Who. He also spent 5 years working in a Bronze Sculpture Casting Foundry, with customers including Anish Kapoor and Bill Woodrow.

He’s now taking bookings for both taster sessions and longer-term classes in pottery, sculpture and other forms of clay modelling.
