1979 VW Scirocco Storm Mk1 sells for record-breaking £33k at Evoke Classics

Renowned classic car and motorcycle auction house Evoke Classics is delighted to announce that a fully-restored Volkswagen Scirocco Storm reached a whopping £33,000 on its online auction – setting a new world record for the model.

The last couple of years have seen the classic car world stand back and gasp as some truly stunning cars have reached phenomenal sums. Typically, these have been supercars or at least the “bedroom wall” variety such as the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, which sold last year for more than $140M – or maybe the 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth, which sold for nearly £600,000 earlier this year.

More of an “everyman” car but no less rare, the Mark 1 VW Scirocco Storm sent shockwaves through the classic car world when it fetched the auction price of £33,000

Research shows that, until this £33,000 sale, there hadn’t been a Scirocco Storm that had sold for even half that number. Arguably, its record-breaking price is testament to the quality of the car itself.

Restored over two years by Evoke Classics’ restoration partner, Fix Auto in Dagenham – and with just one previous owner and less than 21,000 warranted miles – it’s not surprising that this gem reached such an impressive number.

Sarah Crabtree, Sales Director and Shareholder at Evoke Classics, said “When the Scirocco was listed we knew it would be a very popular auction lot but for it to break through the £30k barrier did take some of the team by surprise.”

Paul Cunningham, Commercial Director at Evoke Classics, said “It has been an absolute pleasure watching Sarah and the team grow Evoke Classics into the mature business that it has become. The Scirocco Storm smashing the world record sale price is just another step in the journey of Evoke Classics becoming one of the most popular ways to buy or sell a classic vehicle in today’s digital world.”

Evoke Classics launched its new website in October 2021, with the auction page going live in December the same year. Since then, Evoke Classics has listed more than 500 lots and sold everything from a classic Fergie tractor, military vehicles, motorcycles, to very famous classic cars. In fact, if it rolls and is classic, Evoke can sell it.
