Scanning Pens announce 5-year investment plan into Indian subsidiary

The announcement was made at a meeting of business leaders in Bristol on Friday in the presence of the High Commissioner of India, Her Excellency, Mrs. Ruchi Ghanashyam. Jack Churchill, Co-Founder & CEO of Scanning Pens, shared details of the plan to invest £1 million over the next 5 years including plans to hire another 30 employees. This marks a significant investment for the U.K based business, combining the establishment of a global service centre and a local sales team.

Scanning Pens established an office in the prestigious Nariman Point area of Mumbai in the summer of 2019 and already has a team of 10 employees in place.

This new venture puts Scanning Pens employees on four continents around the world. By starting up a Scanning Pens centre in India, the team plan to raise greater awareness of dyslexia and assistive technology as a means to improve the literacy skills of young people and adults in India.

Scanning Pens’ new employees in India are a welcome addition to the team, giving a new viewpoint to the organisation. The company has had a huge year since winning the 2019 BETT Exporter of the Year Award and being named as Export Champs by the Department for International Trade.

This announcement pairs well with the upcoming release of an update to their technology that includes an Indian English accent, designed to aid comprehension and language understanding.

Scanning Pens Co-Founder & CEO, Jack Churchill, said, “We believe that India’s continued recognition of the importance of the English language, along with the governments focus on supporting disabilities and raising literacy levels in India, presents Scanning Pens with a unique opportunity to support some of the 1.2 billion population.”

Ameeta Virk, India Market Specialist, Business West, commented, “Scanning Pen's decision to commit so decisively to the Indian market is extremely exciting both for the company and for those individuals with learning challenges in India. The efforts Scanning Pens is making to aid those with dyslexia is to be commended and I'm delighted to support their progress in the months ahead.”
