Scanning Pens Announced as Winner of Innovation Award

Scanning Pens’ ReaderPen has been awarded the Innovation Award for Technology from nasen (National Association of Special Educational Needs). This announcement was made at the nasen 2019 Awards on Friday 18th October.

The nasen Awards was established with the aim to celebrate achievements across the SEND community by recognising and share best practice; which, ultimately, is intended to benefit children and young people with special additional educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The requirements for the nasen Award application states “for every award there is an expectation that the work being recognised has improved outcomes for children or young people with SEND, and that individual or organisation has gone above and beyond expected practice.”

Obtaining this prestigious accolade indicates that the judges of this specialised organisation for SEND support have found Scanning Pens to be innovative contributors to assistive technology.

This is the 4th award Scanning Pens has received in this year alone. With only nine other categories to the awards, Scanning Pens is proud the ReaderPen is part of this exclusive selection of SEND supporters.

The ReaderPen is a text-to-speech reading support that scans text and reads it aloud or via earphones. This portable literacy aid was initially designed to discreetly assist SEND students in their literacy development while saving schools time and money. Since its development, the ReaderPen has become a tool that all users, and even businesses, can implement to support struggling readers.
