Leading house-builder partners with Yorkshire homelessness charity to host event

A Yorkshire-based homelessness charity has partnered with a multi-award-winning company to host one of its largest annual fundraising events.

On Thursday 10 May, Simon on the Streets will host the fourth annual Rough Diamond Ball at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Leeds. Award-winning house-builder, Duchy Homes, has come on board as the headline sponsor of the event.

Founded in Yorkshire in 2011, Duchy Homes, has quickly earned a reputation for the highest standards in design, safety and quality, recognised by its repeated triumph year-on-year in the industry-acclaimed NHBC Awards.

The Rough Diamond Ball invites corporate supporters and individuals to come together for a night of fundraising, celebration and inspiration. Featuring a three-course meal, silent auction, entertainment from Simon on the Streets’ resident busker Peter Haughton, as well as the Chequered Band and more.

Each year, the charity sources an uncut ‘rough diamond’ in partnership with a local jeweller, which features as the main prize on the evening. Leeds-based Ace Jewellery is this year’s diamond sponsor, providing the diamond that one lucky attendee will take home.

Established in 1999, Simon on the Streets is an independent charity, which relies solely on sponsorship, fundraising and donations. The charity works with local people who are affected by homelessness and rough sleeping in Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield. The organisation offers street-support to individuals who have complex needs and cannot access mainstream services, due to behavioural issues or mental illness.

Commenting on the event, general manager at Simon on the Streets, Gordon Laing said:

“The Rough Diamond Ball is a wonderful event which we look forward to every year. It is a chance for our supporters to come together for an evening of fundraising and entertainment and is always a fantastic occasion."

“We’d like to thank Duchy Homes for their generosity and coming on board as the headline sponsor of the event. Simon on the Streets is solely funded by donations and sponsorships, we receive no local authority funding so rely heavily on companies such as Duchy Homes to fund our vital services.”

CEO of Duchy Homes, Dave Jones commented:

“Duchy Homes is proud to sponsor such a great event that will support the valuable work of Simon on the Streets in helping the homeless in our communities.

“Working in the housebuilding industry means we especially connect with the value of having a place to call home and the importance of good quality living conditions. We hope our sponsorship can make a big difference to those in need of support in finding a safe home.”

Tickets to the Rough Diamond Ball cost £60 individually, or £550 for a table of 10, and are open to anybody that has an interest in helping to improve the lives of rough sleepers in the Yorkshire area. To book email roughdiamondball@2411events.co.uk or call 07939 982831.
