STAND4 SOCK WINS AT THE GREAT BRITISH ENTREPRENEUR AWARDS

Stand4 is celebrating after it was announced that the recently launched company has been won bronze as the ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’ category in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2015.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, which took place on 25th November at the Ballroom Southbank, Central London, are the recognised standard of excellence amongst entrepreneurs. They mark a new era for entrepreneurship in the UK and this inaugural event acknowledged and celebrates the contribution and inspiration provided by entrepreneurial businesses.

Started by 24 year old Josh Turner, Stand4 socks designs and creates quality colourful socks which help raise both awareness of social causes and have a tangible impact through a ‘buy one, give one’ model. Its vision is to re-engage consumers with charities, through everyday products. For Josh Turner, its aim is to give, ‘ordinary purchases, extra-ordinary purpose’.

Only recently launched, there are currently ten designs in stock. To support people in developing countries, each design is linked to each of the 8 United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Stand4 has partnered with a number of internationally focused charities such as WarChild, WomanKind, and Mines Advisory Group to work on social issues. These include education in war zones, promoting woman’s rights and clearing landmines from the Vietnam War. Josh also recently launched a Syrian refugee crisis sock with WarChild to support education for children in refugee camps.

Josh Turner, Stand4 Socks Founder, comments: “Stand4 is extremely proud to have been won as one of Great Britain’s top social enterprises in 2015, especially as we are only just launched two months ago! I have always loved colourful, eccentric socks, but I am also conscious of the issues some people face in the world today. My start-up was always going to build a social purpose at its core.

“It has been a long year developing this concept with plenty of ups and downs but I am very proud of what we have achieved so far, and we have even bigger plans for the future.”

The impacts we have manage to have in the world in the last month alone include planting 2,500 trees, clearing 68m2 of landmines, vaccinating 174 children against measles, providing 800 days of education to children, 1032 hours in safe houses to women, 56 antenatal check ups, and finally 34 children to learn enterprise skills training!

The best part is, we have barely even got started!
