Student solves other students’ problems and turns it into an award-winning business!

Student entrepreneurs from thestudentnucleus.com have won best Social Enterprise at the prestigious nationwide business competition The Grad Factor. The final competition pitch was held at NatWest Business HQ in London and chaired by NatWest/RBS’s Head of Enterprise Julie Baker. Co-Founder Martin Hedley showcased his vision to make university students’ lives as simple as possible and demonstrated in his 5 minute pitch how thestudentnucleus.com would achieve this.

The website pulls together information on the key elements that drive student life and puts them on one platform. Judges on the panel and audience voters were impressed by the functionality of the user-friendly website. It allows students to: save money by buying and selling textbooks between each other; find accommodation; find scholarships and funding; find internships and connects together students with specific skill sets to enable them to create business teams.

The judges were particularly enthusiastic about the Skills Connect section, they were impressed by the effectiveness of the site in promoting student entrepreneurship as it enables fellow student entrepreneurs to fill skills gaps and build their business teams quickly.

Julie Baker, Head of Enterprise NatWest/RBS & GradFactor Head Judge said "Martin did a great pitch, he clearly explained the concept to the judges and audience. His passion for encouraging student entrepreneurship was clear to see."

Said Martin Hedley, “My bedroom business idea is now helping to grow the numbers of students setting up their own businesses whilst at university by removing one of their biggest obstacles, skills shortages, which are often met right on their doorsteps.”

Chief Business Strategist Laura Blakeley said, “Winning The Grad Factor is fantastic recognition and the support it offers is a great springboard to build upon our success and inspire fellow students to turn their ideas into reality.”
