Event Roundup: 2049. A look into the future of fashion & sustainability, through VOGA & the immersive theme of Blade Runner 2049!

Date: September 13th

Hosted by: Sweat & Sound and House of Voga

Last Thursday, September 13th, Sweat & Sound + House of Voga hosted one of London Fashion Week’s secret fringe experiences - the only dedicated LFW fitness event.

With a cast dressed as ‘replicants’, the crew pulled guests into the 2049 narrative and offered guests the chance to forget the outside world, whilst also successfully highlighting key reminders about sustainability & the future of fashion.

The Fitness:

Starting with a two-part Voga class, guests were treated to House of Voga’s signature moves - Vogue poses, bold with feminine power and fused with the more traditional stances of Yoga. Building up a sweat AND confidence is House of Voga’s middle name, the talented ‘Voguettes’ had guests laughing, posing, sweating and glowing.

The Space:

Sweat & Sound had created a two-space wonder venue, where the top floor was the ‘catwalk’ - the place to ‘show off’ and sashay in front of the crowds. The downstairs was recreated into a ‘club’, dark with music-responsive LED lights, yoga mats on the floor, a place to go wild and be fierce in the secrecy of the underworld. The venue (15 Monmouth Street) is the current ADAY popup.

The Music:

Live 80’s Acid House by Zerya (https://soundcloud.com/zerya), the music mimicked sounds traditionally found on a catwalk or at some of Ibiza’s more high end parties. The high was maintained after the classes, as guests enjoyed the panel, catwalks and stayed a while into the night.

The Panel:

Was joined by Jo-Ann Godden, Founder of RubyMoon Swimwear, Millie Maidens, Senior Designer at ADAY & Palma Parma, advocate for vegan & sustainable skincare, moderated by Ariana Alexander-Sefre, Founder at Sweat & Sound. Questions touched on the key indicators of a sustainable brand, the meaning of ‘circular fashion’ & the future of sustainable textile production.

The Catwalk:

All designers are proud advocates of up cycling, sustainability & recycled materials. Designers included ADAY, House of Voga, Cor Clothes, ELV Denim, RubyMoon, Perff, Katherine Hamnet, Anne Bernecker, Salma Labim, Charli Cohen, Terra New York & Beyond Retro.

Film Screening:

The short film of the evening was directed by Nyco Dyszel, and portrayed an epic Blade Runner themed voyage of the Voguettes. Watch the film here (https://vimeo.com/248386154/c80a3cbdd8).

Inspired by Madonna’s 80s hit ‘VOGUE…Strike a Pose’,

VOGA is about striking strong, confident and aligned poses to increase flexibility and energy flow and boost confidence and serotonin levels. HOUSE OF VOGA is the brainchild of Juliet Murrell, a successful set designer in the fashion, film and design industry who qualified as a yoga instructor in 2011 to restore her natural energy levels, which had been depleted by post-viral chronic fatigue.

Identifying a niche for a more expressive, energetic style of yoga, Juliet went on to create VOGA to optimise your health and wellbeing. Appearing in magazines such as VOGUE worldwide, Juliet has grown an exciting idea, to a fully trademarked concept with 10 trained instructors across the globe from London, Paris, Barcelona and Ibiza to New York, Rio, Buenos Aires and Mexico City.
