Tai Pan Alley - The new street food concept, celebrates aspiring home cooks and the flavours of Asia

The exciting new street food concept is a collection of independent outlets, showcasing the very best of Asian homestyle cooking, including Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian & Chinese dim sum.

The point of difference within Tai Pan Alley compared to other food courts in London, is they are celebrating the home-cook. The purpose of each outlet is to bring Londoners an authentic taste of the owner’s respective home country and region. Tai Pan Alley aims to bring together and provide opportunities for aspiring chefs and home-cooks who have not yet had the opportunity to showcase their culinary talents on a wider stage. These aspiring chefs are usually found producing incredible food in the privacy of their own home, the food of childhood memories and creature comforts, which will now be available to the public.

Haku Kitchin will be one of the operators within Tai Pan Alley, specialising in; Sushi, Yakisoba, Gyoza and Bao. Head Chef, Umesh Bhandari grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, and was inspired by his mum's home style cooking. Umesh was previously a chef at Yo! Sushi where he spent five years gaining knowledge and growing his love for making sushi. Highlights on Haku’s stall will be; Camden Rock & Roll (grilled salmon, avocado, spicy mayonnaise, bread crumbs and homemade teriyaki glaze), Chicken Katsu Curry, Popcorn Shrimp and Pumpkin Katsu. For dessert, Umesh’s specialty is his Chocolate Mochi, with a homemade caramelised sauce.

The face behind the new street food concept is Chris Singham, hailing from Malaysia where he grew up surrounded by a bustling street-food culture. Chris is the CEO and founder of The Rhumshack Group and currently owns and runs hugely successful restaurant brands such as Cottons Rhum Shacks & Restaurants outlets in Shoreditch, Notting Hill, Camden and Vauxhall, bringing modern Caribbean food to London. This new concept will embrace Chris’ love and passion for the vast variety of flavours and aromas found in cuisines spanning the wide continent of Asia.

The launch of Tai Pan Alley had been delayed from early November 2020 to mid-April 2021, in line with the government guidelines of outdoor seating for up to 6 people per table.

Tai pan alley will be located in Camden, on Inverness Street. This dynamic space has been inspired by the backstreet markets of Bangkok, replicating the hustle and bustle of a traditional, energetic alleyway. The space is beautifully designed with unique artwork and neon lighting, creating a fun and lively destination for all. The building was previously occupied by Miusan, Camden’s popular nightclub and has been transformed into a new brilliant spot for a quick weeknight supper, while keeping its weekend destination vibe by offering live DJ’s every Friday and Saturday night with a large bar offering innovative and cocktails.

Tai Pan Alley opens with outdoor seating on 12th April 2021.
