Boost your Wellbeing using your Amazon Alexa Smart Speaker

What’s your daily routine like? The pandemic and extended periods at home have really impacted our routines. Without the commute to and from the office delineating between work and home, this has become even more challenging.

Did you know that technology like the Amazon Alexa Echo Dot smart speaker can help you make changes to your routine and improve your wellbeing? They can do a lot more than just play music and tell you the weather. Amazon Alexa smart speakers are packed full of features that can enhance your home and your life.

Here are five routine tweaks that when built into your day, make a huge difference to your energy levels and how you manage your feelings.

1. Get outside in the fresh air and daylight for some exercise. There are massive health benefits from taking even just a short 10-minute brisk walk outside every day. Link your calendar to your smart speaker and set it to remind you when it’s time for your walk. Smart watches like Fitbit also link to Alexa and can be used to monitor your progress.

2. Hydrate your body. Water plays an important role in regulating body temperature, lubricating joints, preventing infections, and delivering nutrients to cells. Keep your water levels up by using a refillable water bottle and drinking at regular intervals through the day. You can use the reminder function on Alexa to help you do this, no need for fancy applications or trackers.

3. Negative emotions have a tendency to crowd out the positive ones. It takes real effort to stay in balance and not become overwhelmed by these feelings. There are two powerful ways to combat this, one involves looking forward, and the other involves looking back. Visualise your ideal situation, this works because our subconscious mind can’t distinguish between reality and imagination. Spend time each day to consciously list the things you are grateful for. The list function on Alexa is a great way to record your thoughts instead of a paper journal.

4. Make time for mindfulness. Being mindful involves being present in the moment, noticing what's going on both within ourselves and in our surroundings. Mindfulness takes many forms - from the more traditional meditation and breathing techniques to repetitive tasks such as colouring or jigsaws, you can even be more mindful when you’re doing everyday things like brushing your teeth. The Kindspace Alexa skill has lots of tips on how to be more mindful. Just say “Alexa, open Kindspace” to get started.

5. Set a bedtime alarm and check-in on how your day has gone. Sticking to a regular bedtime supports the body’s natural circadian rhythm making you feel more energised. The Kindspace Alexa skill has a quick 1-minute assessment that helps you to keep a track of your key wellbeing indicators and lets you know how you are doing. The routines function on Alexa can be set up to automatically start the Kindspace check-in when the alarm goes off.

The tips above are designed to help you to create Kindspaces in your life that promote self-care, so that you feel focused and calm. What is your favourite wellbeing tip? For more smart home and Alexa tips and advice see www.tltechsmart.com.
