Bradford education veteran makes community brighter with new tutoring business

In a career step-up underscored by a passion for social responsibility, Bradford-based education specialist, Ranvir Fennell, has recently launched her brand-new education venture, Tutor Doctor. With 22 years’ prior experience as a lecturer and course leader of IT and Digital Media at Bradford College, Ranvir further aims to become a “root” of the community’s education system. Now, she’s using her expertise to give those in need an accessible and trusted education in a personalised, one-to-one setting.

Bradford born-and-bred, Ranvir, with the support of her husband, Steven, identified the need to bring personalised and attentive tuition to students in the area. Having the experience of working in education for over two decades, Ranvir understands the inherent demand for specialist, accessible services for students with diverse needs. Now, eight years since she studied part time for her second degree – the first in Teaching and the second in Computing – she has embarked on her journey of improving overall education provision for anyone in need, regardless of their personal situation.

“This area is very much home to me,” explained Ranvir. “I’m so invested in making a positive impact on the lives of students and families in our community, and I believe bringing Tutor Doctor to Bradford, Huddersfield and the surrounding areas is the perfect route for me to do so. Entering this new chapter and becoming a leader for high quality education is an opportunity I won’t take lightly, especially having gained an understanding for exactly what students in the area need over the last 22 years.

“I have such a close connection to the local community. My whole family is from here and I’m proud to have gone through the education system here myself. My mission is to ensure all students have access to a well-rounded and enriching education – and to make them feel as though they aren’t just a number. Students deserve to have access to a dedicated education provider that truly wants to be a part of their successful personal development.”

Also hoping to address high competition for access to the limited provision for students with learning disabilities and other unique needs in the area, Ranvir is driven to offer more widely accessible specialist services. As she establishes strong collaborative relationships with schools and academies in West Yorkshire, Ranvir believes Tutor Doctor’s unique and progressive approach will make them the go-to personalised tutoring service.

“The goal is to take the stress off parents and students who’ve identified the need for our services. Whether it’s minor support with something they’re struggling with or if it’s an incredibly gifted student who needs guidance with a more personal touch, Tutor Doctor’s goal is to help anyone who knocks on our door. There isn’t a great deal of high quality, personalised tutoring services in the area, so it’s very exciting to be bringing such a service home.

“My values align so closely with Tutor Doctor, as its whole approach to education is solely about focusing on the individual needs of each student which is an approach becoming more and more difficult to uphold in mainstream education in the UK today.”

Designed to help students grow in confidence and ability, Ranvir’s in-home and online tuition provider covers Bradford, Huddersfield, Brighouse and the surrounding communities. In a position that will truly help her make a difference, Ranvir aims to help improve the overall standards of local education provision. About Tutor Doctor

Tutor Doctor is the fastest growing in-home tutoring franchise in the world. Business owners work with families to thoroughly asses a child’s needs and then carefully select the best-fit tutor based on goals, personality and learning style. Instead of the tired old centre-based model, tutors visit students at home or work via a state-of-the-art online learning platform so that students can learn in the comfort of their own home, at a time that suits them. For today’s busy families, this is a real benefit! The company was established in North America in 2000 and started its global expansion in 2003. It now has over 500 franchised offices in more than 14 countries and a network of 16,000 tutors. Operations in the UK began in 2009 and since then the company has experienced growth of 50% year on year and now has 80 franchise owners in the UK. The company is a proud member of both The Tutors Association and the British Franchise Association.
