Lancashire educator is an inspiring voice on International Women’s Day 2024

In celebration of International Women’s Day (8th March 2024), 30-year-old Olivia Simpson, the youngest female business owner of global tutoring business, Tutor Doctor, is today inspiring women across Lancashire. She continues to be a pioneer of great change in her community, dedicating her time to improving the lives of children and young people through an inclusive education environment across Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area.

Launching her tutoring business in September 2022, Olivia has taken the region by storm through her hard work and passion to create gender equality in education and business. She has grown her business by 800% in the first year of trading and built a business with a strong team of 44 tutors, of which 73% are female. Together, they have delivered nearly 1,000 hours of tutoring to students since opening and are on track to increase this by 50% by the end of 2024.

“I have always been passionate about my career, and I’ve always strived to be at the top of my game. But when it came to applying for management roles or to be a business owner, one of the challenges I faced was being taken seriously. International Women’s Day is an opportunity for me to speak out for women in the workplace and to be an advocate for women in business. Having just turned 30, my dream was always to run my own business, and now it has become a reality rather than being told that I was too young or didn’t have enough experience,” said Olivia.

“Historically women have been underrepresented and we need to change this. There are many advantages of being a woman in 2024, and it’s time to move forward and change the social bias and inequality that we have faced for so many years. My advice for future women in business will be to not let society tell you what you should be able to accomplish. I know first-hand the struggles and barriers that have been placed in front of me, but I have seen the power of what can be achieved. I know we can break down these barriers and create a new generation of successful women in business.”

A true educationalist, Olivia is leading the way for providing quality, personalised education through nurturing local children’s love of learning and instilling confidence and passion. With a driving ambition and desire to succeed in her career, she now wants to visit local schools to speak about her unique experiences, share insights and provide career guidance to help motivate and inspire students to make informed decisions about their future.

Tutor Doctor has become a true pillar of the local community, and with Olivia’s first-hand experience of education in the area and an understanding of the education system as a whole, she is now working collaboratively with local schools to improve the overall standard of local education provision.

Tutor Doctor covers Lancaster, Morecambe, Middleton, Heaton and the surrounding areas.

About Tutor Doctor

Tutor Doctor is the fastest growing in-home tutoring franchise in the world. Business owners work with families to thoroughly asses a child’s needs and then carefully select the best-fit tutor based on goals, personality and learning style. Instead of the tired old centre-based model, tutors visit students at home or work via a state-of-the-art online learning platform so that students can learn in the comfort of their own home, at a time that suits them. For today’s busy families, this is a real benefit! The company was established in North America in 2000 and started its global expansion in 2003. It now has over 500 franchised offices in more than 14 countries and a network of 16,000 tutors. Operations in the UK began in 2009 and since then the company has experienced growth of 50% year on year and now has 80 franchise owners in the UK. The company is a proud member of both The Tutors Association and the British Franchise Association.
