Videoloft Chairman donates $1.2 million to COVID-19 testing network
7 April 2020: Mike Fischer CBE, chairman and co-founder of Videoloft, who also runs a small non-profit medical research laboratory called SBL, has recently launched COVID-19 Volunteer Testing Network and donated $1.2 million to the project.
SBL’s has focus has shifted from their usual line of work – research and clinical trials – to using its equipment to conduct COVID-19 testing. SBL currently covers 18 GP surgeries and performs an average of 100 tests a day, with plans to scale this up to 500 each day.
Mr Fischer encourages other laboratories to join SBL in their efforts to take the pressure off existing NHS facilities by using their specialist equipment, staff and resources for coronavirus testing. "If other labs join the effort, we could quickly scale to providing tens of thousands of tests a week," he said.
Whilst SBL’s focus has shifted to COVID-19 testing, Videoloft continues to work on new features for its product, a video cloud storage and remote viewing app. The current situation with regard to COVID-19 has generated inevitable security challenges to the commercial sector as a result of increased home working and subsequent building closures. Videoloft continues to work on rolling out network agnostic features that will enable remote installation of cloud to existing CCTV systems. At the same time, they continue to support their colleagues at SBL in any way possible.
