Breanna Alonzo Named Voquent Voice Acting Scholarship 2019 Winner

Breanna Alonzo, a student at Salt Lake Community College in Utah, has been named the best student submission to the Voquent Voice Acting Scholarship 2019. The first such Scholarship which online voice-over agency Voquent.com has offered.

A voice-over is the unseen narrator heard on hundreds of digital media every day, notably for commercials and the characters you hear in video games, animations or audiobooks. The Voquent website states that ‘Anyone can record a voice-over but without the proper training it’s unlikely audiences will want to listen!’.

The Voquent Voice Acting Scholarship includes a year’s membership for the VoiceOver Network, expert support and studio equipment from Focusrite, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of audio equipment.

Breanna Alonzo is currently studying for an A.S. degree in Theater, majoring in Acting, Musical Theater, and Stage Combat and saw the Scholarship opportunity on the Scholarship Owl website. She is delighted to have won saying, "It means that this could be the beginning of my voice acting journey. This means so much to me and with every moment that goes by I am so very grateful."

“We received hundreds of submissions to the scholarship and it took our team many weeks to review all of the candidates and ultimately choose the winner,” said Voquent’s production director Al Black. “Breanna’s submission always stood out as something special. She has already demonstrated a lot of vocal versatility and we’re thrilled to give her the opportunity to gain the experience necessary to get cast as a voice used in commercials, animations or video games in the future. It’s much more than a simple monetary award.”

Breanna Alonzo will first be sent a package containing everything required to setup a professional home recording studio. A qualified Voquent audio engineer will then guide her through the setup process, helping her to get the best sound out of the equipment. Thereafter she’ll receive dedicated consultations and also join The VoiceOver Network, a community run by established voice actor Rachael Naylor, with exclusive forums, training and events.

“It’s a really tough industry to get started in,” said Voquent’s Managing Director Miles Chicoine, “the learning curve, high entry costs and fierce competition all present a significant challenge. We felt it was intrinsic to our company values to offer a path that would support legitimate progress as quickly as possible. We’re excited about offering many more scholarships in the future and we’ll also soon be launching a separate competition open to all ages.”
