Wallgarden RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019

Following their successful debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2018, winning a 5 star award, Wallgarden, in collaboration with multi-award winning designer Sarah Eberle, return for 2019 in a prime location on Main Avenue.

Their playhouses and interactive garden nurture creativity and childhood imagination – a key theme for the show this year, which heralds the benefits of families and communities getting back to nature and the positive impact it has on their wellbeing.

They are delighted to be sponsored by Sanderson, whose iconic patterns will decorate the interiors, Pragnell, whose jewellery collections and design archives, inspired by the English countryside, will be showcased in the garden and the UK’s leading rural insurer - NFU Mutual (Winchester), who are sponsoring the Hampshire Cottage.

Wallgarden playhouses and gardens are magical environments that enable families to enjoy being outside all year round. They provide children with a space of their own, tailored to a family’s individual interests. Their designs are based on local architecture and the setting in which they will be based; their playhouse gardens are an extension of that personal space.

The garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 will showcase two playhouses – ‘The London Shop’ and ‘The Hampshire Cottage’ which will sit in bountiful gardens designed by Sarah Eberle. Both of the buildings and garden will be lit by Chelsea based John Cullen lighting.

The ‘London Shop’ playhouse depicts a beautiful period shopfront, based on the Pragnell showroom on Mayfair’s iconic Mount Street. Pragnell has a long history of incorporating nature into their jewellery design, handcrafted in their Great British workshops. The shop itself is a demonstration of Great British craftsmanship, from the decorative features of the facia, to the miniature showcase within, featuring a dazzling display of colourful gems, inspired by the English countryside. With outside space being at such a premium in the vicinity, the tiny pocket of space for the ‘London Shop’ playhouse will feature jewel-like colours and demonstrate what can be achieved within a small area, as well as showcasing what produce can be grown in a city environment and in town gardens.

Wallgarden have combined features from the history of Pragnell to create the ‘London Shop’, such as the Jacobean patterned trellis (a feature of the Pragnell Stratford-upon-Avon Showroom, constructed in 1594), and the hand drawn designs adorning the interior. Alongside will sit the latest bold and exciting jewellery collections, which have been inspired by the natural surroundings within which the playhouse sits. The interior walls will be adorned with the jewel-like Sanderson wallpaper ‘Bird of Paradise’.

Sponsored by NFU Mutual in Winchester, the ‘Hampshire Cottage’ playhouse focuses on the rural idyll, the kitchen garden and all that it brings and will feature a large play kitchen, in which to create things with the bounty from its adjacent garden. This also includes a miniature AGA, produced by special permission, to encourage role play. The cottage will feature child-sized beautiful and informative tactile items with a horticultural and culinary theme, bringing elements of the garden inside to the kitchen table. It will be a blend of the local Chelsea environment and that of Hampshire, where both Wallgarden and Sarah Eberle are based.

Wallgarden have joined forces with Sanderson to create a bright interior for the ‘Hampshire Cottage’, appealing to youngsters with fabric selections inspired by English cottage gardens. (‘Hollyhocks’ and ‘Cottage Garden’, featuring bunches of primulas and primula aruiculas, with their vintage vibe, are both fabrics reminiscent of those that would have been around when Sanderson set up their printed textile business 100 years ago). Harmonious paint colours of Danbury and Silver Frost in Sanderson Active Emulsion, perfect for family living, complement the fabrics.

The small-scale ‘Hampshire Cottage’, ‘London Shop’ and Sarah Eberle garden can be found on the Wallgarden stand RHW/623 at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 21st – 25th May 2019. The design team will be available for bespoke designs and orders throughout, and the cottage is for sale with delivery after the event.

Wallgarden

Wallgarden design and build bespoke children’s playhouses for the garden.

Hand-crafted by local artisans, using reclaimed and sustainable materials sourced from local suppliers, each house is intricately designed to be a very personal reflection of a family and their surroundings. Much more than a beautiful toy, the houses create treasured childhood memories.

Wallgarden believe the setting is as important as the playhouse. The family garden is often the child’s introduction to nature and it is their aim to help them to grow to love their green space.

Sanderson

As one of the oldest English soft furnishing brands, Sanderson was founded in 1860 in Islington by Arthur Sanderson, who began by importing French wallpapers.
