Local little swimmers return to pools with a splash!

Since swimming pools temporarily closed their doors in late March, little swimmers from across Milton Keynes have been bursting at the seams to get back to their weekly lessons with Water Babies Bucks and Beds. And on Sunday 2nd August, that dream came true for children at Wolverton Pool!

“We are so excited to finally be back in the pool doing what we do best,” said Tamsin Brewis, owner of the baby swim school. “We’ve missed all of our swimmers so much and have literally been counting down the days until this momentous occasion. Thank you to all of the parents and families who patiently waited for the date when we could safely reopen again - your continued support and understanding means the world to us.”

Children were welcomed back with open arms - at a safe distance, of course - to the pool for their first half-an-hour session after a four-month break. Amongst the happy families splashing around were Danika and Aurora.

“We’ve both had the best time at our first Water Babies lesson – Aurora loved being in the pool. I know that during the COVID-19 outbreak it’s just been really scary for parents and everyone is quite cautious about getting back out there, but the Water Babies team have done a great job of keeping everybody safe. We’ll definitely be back next week!”

Claire Dummer, who has taught with Water Babies Bucks and Beds for two years, was the lucky teacher who got to deliver the first session on that Sunday morning.

“I can’t quite believe it’s been such a long time since I last saw my little swimmers - I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed them! It’s been fantastic to see them all again and reintroduce them to the water. We’ve adapted our sessions to maintain social distancing but also to slowly help them regain their confidence in the water. Sure, things look a little different right now, but different works for me if it means I get to continue doing what I love,” said Claire.

Since lockdown started in late March, Tamsin and her team have made necessary changes and developments to ensure a safe return to swimming pools.

“All of our teachers have completed specialist training and we’ve redefined our safety procedures to accommodate the new restrictions we’ve put in place. We’re currently not allowing loved ones to sit by the pool during lessons and have asked our parents to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before their start time.

“The health and safety of our customers and teachers will always be our number one priority, and we are confident that lessons will be safe, fun and enjoyable for our babies and carers,” explained Tamsin.

As lockdown measures continue to ease, Water Babies Bucks and Beds will start welcoming swimmers back to the other 23 pools they teach at across the region very soon.

About Water Babies

In a nutshell, we teach water confidence and safety skills to babies and toddlers. However, we're about so much more besides. Our classes are great for making new friends, helping to enhance the bonding process, having fun... and seeing the utter thrill of your little one gliding underwater towards you. In the last three years alone we know our lessons were directly responsible for saving the lives of ten little ones who otherwise might have tragically drowned. That makes us very proud. And we like raising money for other babies. To date, we've raised over £750,000 for Tommy's. And we're aiming to raise another £200,000 for them (possibly!) this coming summer.
