EQUiP Magazine Launches for parents and teenagers

Yorkshire based publishers, What Could I Be Ltd has today launched EQUiP MAGAZINE for parents and teenagers who want to know more about sectors, skills and the opportunities for their working future.

In the month when National Careers Week and Apprenticeship Week are shining a light on the many opportunities for young people, the role of parents remains largely invisible, and in a report released this week by Pearson based on a YouGov survey, it was found that nearly a quarter of parents do not feel comfortable giving their children advice on their post-secondary school options.

The uncomfortable truth that parents are key influencers on the decisions their teenagers make about first jobs, training and further education is becoming more visible. But through no fault of their own, too many parents are ill-prepared for this role.

EQUiP MAGAZINE is a print title available on subscription. Each edition utilises a unique model of editorial and design called 5Dimensional Thinking to introduce sectors and skills in an engaging way to encourage questions and discussion amongst family’s.

Dr Jane Dennehy, publisher said ‘The world of work is changing all the time and future generations of workers need to be better prepared for a career which is likely to have multiple phases and directions, some of which will be unpredictable.’

‘Parents are so critical to how well prepared our youth are for their futures and so it makes sense to provide them with information about sectors and careers which can help them to see beyond their own working experiences. We believe this new title will be part of a slowly emerging revolution to provide parents with the support they need to do the job both employers and schools need them to do.’

EQUiP MAGAZINE will be published every two months and the first edition includes the textile industry - from fashion to medical textiles, the music industry, the built environment, food and drink and Planet Work, a feature that takes school subjects and links them to jobs and sectors.
