Freelancer Marketplace YunoJuno celebrates the Cream of Freelancers

Freelancer platform and marketplace YunoJuno showcased its top freelancer members at the SweetFA’s (Sweet Freelancer Awards) in London’s trendy Shoreditch on Friday 22 November, at their annual awards celebration.

Rewarding the self-employed from sectors across such disciplines and Design, Film, Marketing, PR and Project Management, the awards celebrated a range of winners, most of whom had moved to freelancing to pursue their craft with greater independence .

Tom Kolodotschko from OLO Design walked away not just with the Designer of the Year Award but was also crowned overall Freelancer of the Year. “I was literally forced into freelancing when I left university, as it was at the height of the recession in 2009, and the mainstream jobs just weren’t there. I have never looked back.”

Winning the Strategy Award, Simon Lamey from Big Apricot Ltd had previously been employed by the likes of Saatchi & Saatchi but was drawn into freelancing three years ago attracted by the variety and flexibility. “I now not only have a thoroughly fulfilling job, but I can also enjoy my family life on my own terms,” he said.

All winners cited the support that YunoJuno provides as the one factor that enables them to be successful in the freelancing world.

Mariana Rodrigues, winner of the Creative Team Award, with her business partner Chris Ahleri for their business ChrisXMari, praised YunoJuno. “They have changed my professional life. I can now bypass recruiters and agencies. Clients can just see our business testimonials and book us direct. Then YunoJuno manages the payment side, leaving Chris and I just to concentrate on delivering the job for the client.”

YonuJuno founder Shib Mathew, dressed as Alexander Hamilton at the ‘come dressed for the occasion event’ praised all the shortlisted freelancers. “The Freelancer Awards were created to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution that Freelancers make to so many organisations and sectors. At YunoJuno we understand the many pressures of the freelance life – from finding the assignments, to managing the payments – so our mission is to remove as much of the stress as possible for the freelancer as well as hirers. The Awards celebration each year, aside from the pure enjoyment of the evening, makes us realise what a vibrant resource this country has, and every bit of support we can provide adds to the vibrancy”.
