Business leaders encouraged to ‘de-Brexit’ and focus on achievable goals
BUSINESSES will be encouraged to focus on aspects of their operation they can influence at a series of special events.
Three speakers will look at the maelstrom being caused by Brexit negotiations and work with delegates to establish how they can positively affect the fortunes of their companies, irrespective of the outcome.
A way forward will be forged so that focus on key business goals is absolute, regardless of what happens over the Commons despatch boxes in coming weeks.
The sessions will be led by representatives from legal firm Cartmell Shepherd, Business Doctors Cumbria and chartered accountants MonyanSmith.
Peter Fleming of Business Doctors will be one of the speakers.
He said: “We feel that the uncertainty surrounding Brexit it leading many businesses to sit tight as they wait to see how things develop.
“However, there are many aspects of their operation they could be dealing with now; aspects they can control and move forward whatever happens with the UK’s exit from the EU.
“We will examine three keys areas: communication, process and team. There are so many positive ways business owners can act in these areas and that’s were the focus of the sessions will lie. We’re asking business leaders to de-Brexit themselves and focus on the here and now.”
Two seminars will be held. The first will be at Carlisle College on Friday, March 29 from 8.30am until 11am.
The second will be held at Roundthorn Country House in Penrith on Wednesday, April 17 from 8am until 10am.
Joanne Stronach is head of employment law at Cartmell Shepherd and will speak at both events. She said: “After communications and systems are dealt with, I will be exploring the human side of the management process.
“There are so many important elements which, regardless of Brexit, can be areas of focus.
“Looking at your staff and using management tools to develop them into ambassadors of the business is crucial.
“Ensuring you have the right people, with the requisite skills and in the correct roles will help your business to thrive.
“We will look at tools and methods to do this, and help to ensure business owners can work on their company, and not in it.
“We will also explore how to deal appropriately with underperforming employees and look at the process for managing them in an effective way.”
A third session will be delivered by Darren Moynan of MoynanSmith Chartered Accountants who will explore how businesses can embrace digital technology, ensuring they have robust and current management information (MI) at their fingertips.
He will tell how the key success factor is focusing on creating an agile business and being able to adapt to events out with your control.
