Toothbrush subscription service registered by the Vegan Society
Eco-friendly toothbrush subscription box service Brushbox provides Vegan, cruelty-free toothbrushes
The UK’s first sustainable toothbrush subscription service has registered with the Vegan Society.
Brushbox, which launched in 2018, provides eco-friendly, Vegan and cruelty-free bamboo toothbrushes as part of an oral health subscription service with aims to make oral hygiene more sustainable.
The Vegan Society registration means that Brushbox toothbrushes have been recognised as Vegan-friendly. Brushbox has also registered with the US FDA and have FSC confirmation, which means that the raw materials of the toothbrushes come from an FSC certified farm.
The Vegan Society Trademark represents the international standard for authentic vegan products and indicates businesses produce quality, ethical products.
Brushbox is also registered with PETA and is cruelty-free. It aims to be the world’s largest subscription band for eco-friendly, cruelty-free and sustainable oral care products. It delivers 100% recyclable and biodegradable toothbrushes every other month directly to you.
Founder and CEO Mike Donovan says, “the awareness around the damage that plastics are having in our seas and environment means that there is an ever-growing population of consumers who are crying out for eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to the status quo, and it's important that this is done well.”
Studies showed that in 2016, a global population of more than 7 billion people produced over 320 million tons of plastic.
Brushbox aims to combat the estimated 3.6bn plastic toothbrushes that end up in landfill or our oceans each year by redefining our relationship with oral hygiene.
It encourages its customers to replace its toothbrushes every other month and provides a subscription service which regularly sends new toothbrushes out to subscribers.
Mike says, “we understand that actively remembering when to change your toothbrush may not be at the top of everyone’s priority list, but we’re passionate about spreading the Brushbox ethos in order to improve people’s health.
“The idea for the business came after helping my (then) four-year-old to brush her teeth and I realised that for one, she was not engaged in the process at all, and secondly, I had absolutely no idea as to when was the last time I changed her toothbrush – despite the fact that I was already thinking about my business idea constantly!”
Since its launch, Brushbox has delivered thousands of boxes across the UK and has been listed as the number one start-up business to watch in Wales. UK Marketing Week magazine named it as the second fastest-rising direct to consumer brand in the UK, just behind US razor subscription service Dollar Shave Club.
