UK subscription box company promises to plant a tree for every toothbrush sold

Toothbrush subscription service, Brushbox, expand into a ‘Buy One, Give One, Plant One’ scheme.

Eco-friendly toothbrush subscription service, Brushbox, has partnered with the Eden Reforestation Projects in support of the projects’ aim to restore native forests. This means that for every Brushbox toothbrush sold, a tree will be planted.

Since its launch in 2018, Brushbox has delivered thousands of boxes across the UK and has been listed as the number one start-up business to watch in Wales. UK Marketing Week magazine named it as the second fastest-rising direct to consumer brand in the UK, just behind US razor subscription service Dollar Shave Club. It provides eco-friendly, Vegan and cruelty-free bamboo toothbrushes as part of an oral health subscription service with aims to make oral hygiene more sustainable.

Founder and CEO of Brushbox, Mike Donovan, is committed to improving the oral health of the UK through providing toothbrushes on subscription. It is the UK’s first sustainable subscription service, delivering 100% recyclable and biodegradable toothbrushes. One of its key aims is to combat the estimated 3.6 billion plastic toothbrushes that end up in landfill or our oceans each year.

“The awareness around the damage that plastics are having in our seas and environment means that there is an ever-growing population of consumers who are crying out for eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to the status quo and it’s important that this is done well”, says Mike.

The Eden Reforestation Projects pursue multiple aims; to restore native forests, provided food for villagers, shelter for wildlife, shade medicines, soil regeneration and climate regulation through a village-wide tree-planting program; and to lift people out of extreme poverty. Eden Reforestation Projects currently provide project sites in Madagascar, Haiti, Nepal and Indonesia.

Brushbox will sponsor the village-wide planting campaigns, aiming to improve the lives of local villagers by restoring the environment and creating jobs in the process.

The introduction of the ‘Buy One, Plant One’ scheme follows Brushbox’s partnership with Dentaid and their ‘Buy One, Give One’ promise, which means that for every toothbrush sold, one is donated to a child in need in the UK. Brushbox are also registered with the Vegan Society and PETA.

Mike says, “we understand that actively remembering when to change your toothbrush may not be at the top of everyone’s priority list, but we’re passionate about spreading the Brushbox ethos in order to improve people’s health.”

About Brushbox

Brushbox are a UK based sustainable oral-health brand who were founded in 2017 by Mike Donovan who left his career with Deloitte to start a business which could ‘Save the Planet, Twice a Day’. It's estimated that 3.6bn plastic toothbrushes and 1.5bn plastic toothpaste tubes end up in landfill and our oceans each year - should something we all use every day really be damaging to the environment when there are high-quality, sustainable alternatives available? Brushbox deliver beautiful Bamboo Toothbrushes, Zero-Waste Toothpaste tabs and 100% Biodegradable Floss (and more) direct to our customer’s door, right when their dentist recommends (because 70% of us do not replace their brush when they should). Our goal is to not only improve people’s health, but also make a positive impact on our planet and that's why as part of our ’Buy 1, Give 1, Plant 1’ (B1G1P1) promise we gift a free brush to a disadvantaged child, and plant a tree, every time a brush lands on our customers’ door.
