Digital Leaders, the nationwide programme for promoting effective, long-term digital transformation across government, industry and charities, has announced the finalists who make up the Digital Leaders 100 (DL100) list for 2019 which is now open to the public vote.
Social impact start-up Cancer Central has been shortlisted in a new category ‘HealthTech Innovation of the Year’. Avril Chester, Founder & CEO is delighted at the nomination, “Cancer Central has been created from over 20,000 hours from 100+ individuals and 20+ organisations, with major contributions from TechFINIUM and ROQ. Being shortlisted for this award is incredible, a wonderful recognition of all that has been given, and such an achievement for everyone involved”.
Launched in October 2018, Cancer Central is a new digital platform created to provide those affected by cancer with the help and support they need during their cancer journey.
The platform combines a database with an innovative conversational search engine to connect people to the products, services and products, when and where they need them. These services include benefits advice, insurance products, counselling, complementary therapy, respite care, hats, wigs, lingerie, skincare, financial help, nutrition advice, local societies or communities, meals on wheels, books, blogs, forums, local hospital taxi services and so on – all based on geographical location and cancer type to provide individualised information.
Avril shared, “We are now seeking businesses, charities and communities (local, regional and national) who support those affected by cancer to register on Cancer Central so that we can signpost to them in their time of need. We appreciate Digital Leaders for their help in spreading the word”. Individuals and organisations can register: https://www.cancercentral.org.uk/initRegisterProvider.jsf
Russell Haworth, Chair of Digital Leaders, said:
"The Digital Leaders 100 list 2019 once again highlights the progress in digitally transforming the UK. Our community of Digital Leaders have shone a light on the many hidden heroes, quietly getting on with the nation’s digital transformation. It is fabulous to see such a strong list from outside London this year reflecting our own inclusive national programme and the growing importance of digital transformation on companies irrespective of size or sector."
Robin Knowles, CEO of Digital Leaders, commented: "Our 7th Digital Leaders 100 published today reflects much of the fantastic work going on across the UK’s sectors. It’s a celebration of those leading change, but who are not perhaps household names yet.”

About the Digital Leaders 100
Each year’s list is created from nominations submitted by members of the 120,000 strong Digital Leaders Community before being shortlisted by the DL100 judges, who are often members of the Digital Leaders Advisory Board.
This year’s list is the 7th cohort to join the alumni of previous winners that now numbers over 400 leaders from Government, Enterprise, startups and charities. These former members stay in touch, network and learn from each other through participation in the DL100 Club.
