Cancellation of The Bengal's Pride Awards 2021 due to the tragic death of Sir David Amess MP

Hippo Mobility is today announcing that the 2021 Bengal's Pride Awards is to be cancelled following the tragic death of Sir David Amess, MP. Sir David was the Chairman of Advatech Foundation and The Bengal's Pride Awards and, for the last three years, had been providing sustained and well-appreciated support by championing the annual hosting of the event in the House of Commons.

Samit Biswas, Trustee of the Advatech Foundation, says of the loss of Sir David, "It seems we lost a father figure, a gap that can't be filled by anyone else. Our thoughts are with Sir David Amess' family and staff."

The Bengal's Pride Awards is the only award in the UK that recognises the global achievements of the Bengali community. There are more than 300 million Bengalis around the world and more than 500,000 living in the UK. Over 50% of the UK's local Bengali population live in London. The Bengal's Pride Awards is annually attended by prominent politicians such as Sir David Amess, alongside a range of community leaders, business leaders, those working in academic fields, and an array of other high-net individuals that have performed positive work.

As the national language of Bangladesh and the sixth most spoken language in the world, the Bengali language was to be celebrated at this year's awards ceremony, highlighting both established and upcoming Bengali names of recognition. In particular, the award is a celebration of the community work undertaken by Bengali people, as well as an essential step towards rejoicing in the diversity that the UK has to offer.

Company spokesperson for Hippo Mobility says of The Bengal's Pride Awards: "These awards are not just a step towards the commemoration of valuable Bengali voices, but also a step towards anti-racism in the UK. Sir David Amess was a holder of values that are far too scarce in modern society and he will be sorely missed."
