Brand-new coding studio to offer Bromley children specialist winter coding camp

It seems Santa has made an early trip to Bromley this winter, with a brand-new coding dojo set to run a winter camp for video-game loving children. Code Ninjas Bromley are looking to turn children’s love for technology into a fun and exciting learning adventure.

From the 20th to the 23rd of December the new coding camp in Bromley is offering a fun and exciting holiday programme for the festive season, designed for kids aged 7 to 14. Through immersive education, children will learn coding by creating their own games that family and friends can play at home. At the camp Ninjas will be using MakeCode Arcade, they will learn how to code video games and bring them to life on a handheld gaming device, the Kittenbot Meowbit! This will occur during a four-day long workshop at the Bromley-based coding hub.

The business has been launched by local businessman and dad of two, Pow Ku, “I’ve known for a while now how beneficial coding can be for kids’ development and long-term prospects, so when I was searching for a coding school to send my daughter, I was disappointed I couldn’t find one nearby. So, I took matters into my own hands by launching my own coding studio. I’m now looking forward to giving local children the chance to learn some skills that will put them at a great advantage in life, as well as it being something that offers an alternative to mainstream after-school activities.”

“My main priority is to make sure we increase our students’ sense of self-confidence. I think it’s so important that our classes are face to face but different from a classroom style environment, ensuring the kids know they’re here to have fun instead of emulating the feeling of their standard school day. They’re going to learn some amazing things with us – and with a proven positive correlation between having fun and learning, I’m keen to establish that methodology.”

At Code Ninjas, things are done in a unique way. The teachers are called Code SenseisTM, the locations are called dojos and the students are called ninjas! To mirror martial arts masters, kids will earn coloured wristbands as they grow and improve their skillset, paralleling the belt system synonymous with ninja training. ‘Belt up’ ceremonies are held for the ninjas who graduate up a level.

“I just can’t wait to get going and start seeing some smiles on faces,” said Pow. “As cool as it is, the camp will do more than just teach children how to code and build video games. Coding helps kids to develop critical thinking such as thinking outside the box and also how to approach problems in certain ways. The ninjas can explore and develop new skills in a hands-on learning environment, and I can’t wait to see all the kids grow and build themselves up. I’m hoping that the combination of problem solving and having fun with their friends will result in them being able to deal with situations outside of the camp with great confidence. The more I talk about it the more I realise what an amazing thing this could be for kids in Bromley. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience.”

It goes without saying that, even in 2021, it’s not uncommon for parents to worry that their children are wasting their time playing video games. However, Code Ninjas offers parents the opportunity to transform their children’s love of coding and technology into a fun learning experience.

Ninjas will also have access to a team of Senseis to help them through the programmes. Pow went on to say, “I’ve recruited a wonderful team of local instructors to support me in this venture, including our Studio Manager, Orgil Otgonbayar. Our goal is to ensure that every ninja has an absolute blast every time they’re with us. Each Sensei will encourage learning in a relaxed and fun environment, at a pace customised to suit each child. I‘m so looking forward to welcoming ninjas to our camp in a few weeks’ time.”
