Children nationwide invited to celebrate the important women in their life through code

In a salute to the empowering spirit of Women’s History Month, coding wizards nationwide will have the chance to showcase their skills by crafting projects that pay tribute to the influential women in their lives. Through a free project hosted by Code Ninjas, current coding ninjas and newcomers alike are encouraged to join the Female Game Changers event – an initiative aimed at acknowledging the extraordinary women who have made a lasting impact through the art of code.

Code Ninjas, the trailblazers in kids’ coding education, have teamed up with Microsoft MakeCode, a cutting-edge computing platform that transforms programming into a thrilling adventure, and Girls Who Code, the champions working tirelessly to bridge the gender gap in technology. Together, they are bringing forth a ground-breaking initiative – a unique Game Jam.

This special event is designed to inspire and educate girls, equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge and a platform to embark on a journey in computer science. Focused on game development and harnessing the intuitive, block-based and JavaScript coding environments provided by Microsoft MakeCode, Game Jam aims to make coding an enjoyable and engaging experience while giving coders the chance to celebrate the special women in their lives.

“This Game Jam is a testament to Code Ninjas’ commitment to making coding accessible to all, especially to empower girls during Women’s History Month,” said Navin Gurnaney, CEO of Code Ninjas. “We’re proudly partnering with Girls Who Code to create a Game Jam that inspires and educates girls by providing them with the tools, knowledge and platform to embark on a journey in computer science.”

“Microsoft MakeCode is thrilled to be partnering with Code Ninjas and Girls Who Code on a special Female Game Changers themed Game Jam this month,” added Jacqueline Russell, Product Manager at Microsoft MakeCode. “In order to close the gender gap in tech, we have to let young women know that computer science skills can be an outlet for creativity and fun, and a vehicle for them to pursue their passions.”

The Game Jam event is gearing up for an exciting climax on 31st March, so participants must act quickly to seize the opportunity to take part! Whether it is a game of any genre or any imaginative project, the stage is open for creative expression. With activities tailored for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced coders, participants can work in teams, glean insights from seasoned mentors and breathe life into their creative ideas through code – harnessing the versatility of Microsoft MakeCode’s platform.

Renowned gamer and one of TIME’s Top 25 Most Influential People on the Internet, DrLupo, will judge the entries. In addition to celebrating the remarkable women in their lives, participants will have the chance to take home some exciting prizes. First place will win a Meta Quest 3 VR Headset, second place will win an XBOX Series S Starter Pack, and third place will win a Code Ninjas Swag Bag.
