The Compassionate Leadership Academy was “soft” launched in 2019. This is an incredibly exciting and far-reaching new way of learning. Of spreading the word on compassionate leadership. Of inspiring more and more people across the globe to become, not just compassionate leaders, but also to actively adopt the philosophy of compassion. The Compassionate Leadership Academy draws on the years of experience of Manley Hopkinson and presents it in such a way to be truly inspiring, Understandable, Memorable and, importantly, eminently Usable. We believe in the “i-UMU” principle. This e-Learning platform was inspired by Manley’s highly acclaimed book Compassionate Leadership, that brings to life much of the learning, the experience and the application of a life as a leader, team member, father, a friend and a compassionate human being.
WHY DO WE NEED IT?
The world has been catapulted into the realisation that we need to engage and lead in a different way. We need to change the focus to that of sustainable commitment. The next generation look at the way that their parents work and think "I don't want to work like that", and good on them for that. We need to change our relationship with each other and the planet. We are relators and guardians, not owners. The future is "compassion". But what does the word compassion mean? Why is compassion so important?
Compassion is “Empathy with Action”. It is not enough to understand, we must act on our understanding. Compassion is working with a positive intent on the understanding of the needs of others. Compassion creates commitment. Compassion feeds connection, creativity and fulfilment.
Compassion is not soft or easy. Compassion is at times very tough. Compassion is knowing when to say yes and when to say no, when to charge ahead with energy and when to hold back. The definition of compassionate leadership is “To Secure the Best for All”. It sounds simple but it takes conscious effort to deliver. If we can secure the best for somebody, for an organisation, for ourselves, and for the planet, then by definition we will secure the best out of them all. Compassionate leadership turns traditional leadership on its head. To be a compassionate leader first we have to know about ourselves, our own motivations, our own frailties, our needs and fears and the impact we have others. It is only when we are truly aware of ourself that we can start to grow our knowledge of others, and the only way to be a compassionate leader is to work with that knowledge of the other, that empathy, with positive intent. The Compassionate Leadership Academy programme is a journey to self-realisation and self-worth, a journey of commitment, creativity and connection, and a journey into a life of deep fulfilment.

Individuals: For individuals, it is a hugely personal program that you can engage with at your own pace, at your own time and in the place of your choosing on multiple platforms. And - it begins with you. The first nine weeks are devoted to develop the mindset of a compassionate leader in readiness to learn and apply the tools of leadership. We grow our understanding of our own inner motivations, our “story”, our purpose and our filters. We begin the journey to becoming a conscious compassionate leader & human being, by first recognising and accepting ourselves.
Organisations: Create a coherent cultural transformation based on Compassionate Leadership that is proven to deliver a high performing organisation. The Compassionate Leadership Academy allows an organisation to scale the leadership development in an affordable way leading to a true legacy development of succession as leaders emerge through the organisation.
