The new travel? Journey from your front room to the sandy beaches of Mauritius using AR portal

Is this the short-term future of travel?

Novel app designed by London-based VR & AR agency, Visualise, uses AR to transport you anywhere in the world through a live portal - direct from your device.

At a time when the world is longing to be elsewhere, Visualise have developed an augmented reality portal that opens up a live 360 video stream. The agency is currently running the app for their team to be ‘transported’ to their London workplace; using any flat surface as a doorway to the office.

Visualise pioneered the immersive AR tech recently in a campaign for EE, using it to transport users to a Bastille concert (link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OndWrKMADMI). While the portal, in this instance, lets the team virtually travel to work, this app development showcases the ability of immersive technology to bridge the gap between those of us locked in and the rest of the world.

Amongst the recent coverage on the possibilities and solutions that virtual and augmented reality can offer during the pandemic, this app demonstrates the potential of XR technology; playfully showcasing how it can be used by industries that will be feeling the effects of the virus most through people's inability to freely move from place to place; industries such as travel and tourism, property and brick and mortar retail.

Visualise Founder and CEO, Henry Stuart, commented: “Social distancing is not going away any time soon - and all types of immersive content now have a huge opportunity to connect people globally, and visually. This adds to the marketing mix, offering incredible opportunities to showcase future destinations, giving people a taste whilst they are at home; helping businesses to transport their audiences. Now is the time push the boundaries of what is possible with immersive technology and use it to its full potential”
