Busiest Week since Re-opening
Hundreds of visitors have crossed the threshold of Haslemere Museum in the last seven days. Visitor numbers, which suffered a significant hit over three lockdowns, are buoyantly bouncing back during the early weeks of the summer holidays.
The familiar pattern of local, working parents for whom childcare is undertaken by grandparents is encouraging many to revisit the Museum and rediscover old favourites. “Grandparents bringing their cherished grandchildren to the Museum is such a source of delight” commented a representative from the Museum. “They often visited as children, brought their own kids here and now get to share those experiences with the next generation. It’s really inspirational.”
Since the relaxation of Covid-19 regulations on July 19th, staff and volunteers have been able to restore some of the most loved attractions to their former glory. One of these welcome sights is guests happily filling in the visitors’ book as they leave. “It was amazing! Like every single piece of history you could possibly want right here.” commented Grace Wright –age 10.
The trend for holidaying at home, coupled with a packed programme of events and exhibitions is bringing groups of visitors into the Museum for the first time. The Museum’s popular Explorers programme of events cranks up a gear for the school holidays with some weeks hosting not one but two family events. This week alone has seen Clay Creations workshops for all ages and Ancient Egyptian family drop in crafts events that attracted over 100 people.
