Mind Management For You to host online show on understanding suicide and lockdown

Sheila McMahon, CEO of Mind Management For You, is taking her sell-out mental health theatre show online with a special show dedicated to understanding suicide and suicide prevention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the last 5 years, BACP registered qualified counsellor, author and singer, Sheila McMahon has been travelling around the UK performing shows about mental health. For the first time in 5 years, McMahon will be dedicating a show entirely to suicide prevention in light of England entering a second national lockdown.

During the first lockdown, many people struggled with feelings of isolation and existing mental health issues were intensified by the pandemic. The mental health charity Samaritans reported that over 1 in 10 people reported feeling suicidal or contemplated self-harm during the first week of lockdown alone.

As England enters another lockdown, McMahon has decided now is crucial for the UK to begin talking about suicide and reduce the stigma surrounding discussing suicide.

McMahon will cover many topics related to suicide, including how people in the UK are often encouraged to talk about suicide but never guided or encouraged to listen to others. The show will address other difficult topics, such as the fact men are 3 times more likely to take their own life and the damaging 'man up' ideology that is still present in the UK.

She explains, “As a survivor of mental ill-health, now working as a counsellor during this pandemic, we need more than ever to talk about suicide and early interventions to prevent further deaths.”

The show will hopefully provide the early intervention people in the UK need to address the topic of suicide and its relationship with the COVID-19 pandemic before more tragic casualties take place.

Tickets for the online event can be purchased at https://www.mindmanagementforyou.com/. The show will take place at 7.45 pm on Saturday 28th November and 10% of the profits from the show will go to the Samaritans.
