Meet the Beccles GP turned jeweller
When Beccles GP Renee Kathuria retired from medicine in 2016, she decided it was time for a new career. And, having always wanted to run a jewellery shop, she opened a premises in the town to do just that.
“I’d seen someone running a jeweller’s when I was a medical student, and the ambition to do the same never quite left me during all my years of being a doctor,” explains Renee.
The resulting business, Oliver and J Jewellery, was named after Renee’s son Oliver and daughter Jessica. It has gone from strength to strength, mainly thanks to personal recommendations, and now has four employees, including full and part-time staff members.
But the shop does more than offer a range of wide range of jewellery items from more than 40 British and international designers.
An experienced goldsmith, able to work with all kinds of precious metals, pearls and gemstones, is available to carry out repairs, fitting and resizing of jewellery items.
“We’re also especially proud of our ‘Search and find’ service,” adds Renee. “This allows people to track down the perfect gift, engagement ring or whatever else they need, based on their budget. It’s especially handy if they can’t find what they want immediately.
“We choose all our pieces carefully to offer outstanding design and quality at genuinely affordable prices.”
The jeweller also offers a bespoke redesign option, including CAD design where needed, allowing customers to create their own jewellery, whether that’s a new piece or something older.
Other services include ear piercing, jewellery valuation and maintenance, plus rhodium plating to refresh white gold jewellery. The team can even fashion items of jewellery from hand or paw prints.
