Parents sending their children back to school encouraged to remember the benefits of preschool learning

As parents send their children back to school following the half-term holidays, Play and Learn Café are turning their attention to promoting rich play experiences for preschool-aged children.

Gail Johnson, Co-Director of Play and Learn Café, reminds parents that: "The importance of early childhood cannot be underestimated. It's a time when young children are learning the vital skills and learning aptitudes that will stand them in good stead when they do start school. Young children love learning through play, and it's the best way for them to grow and develop."

Play and Learn Café currently provide ‘Messy Mondays sessions - messy play for children 0-3

and ‘Explore with Baby’ sessions – sensory play for babies up to the age of 15 months. Following the recent half-term, the Play and Learn Café team now plan to run outdoor play learning sessions for toddlers and monthly Saturday Messy Play sessions for geared towards working parents.

Between them, Gail Johnson and Paula O'Connor, Directors of Play and Learn Café, have a wealth of experience and education qualifications which they use to support parents and young children. Gail was awarded an OBE in 2001 for 'services to education in Gloucestershire' and has worked in the early education sector for the past 18 years.

Like Gail, Paula is a qualified teacher, with a B.Ed Hons and MA in Early Childhood Education. Gail and Paula are passionate about play-based learning and the preservation of childhood.
