Grace's Winning Ways

Entrepreneur Grace Olugbodi is celebrating after winning an award at the Best of Royal Greenwich Business Awards. Grace’s business BeGenio won in the micro to small business category.

Grace received the award from BBC’s Breakfast’s Steph McGovern at a glittering ceremony at the O2 InterContinental.

BeGenio creates fun maths board games, online video courses and live workshops for parents to help their children build maths confidence, enjoy maths more, achieve better results and reduce mathematical anxiety. Their game Race To Infinity, which Grace personally designed and refined over many years is currently being sold across the UK and also in USA, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia, France, Canada, and Africa.

Grace who previously worked as computer programmer for an investment bank in the City, was encouraged to enter the awards by her business adviser Clive Jelf.

Grace was delighted to win in what she knew was a very competitive category.

‘It was such a surprise to be chosen against really tough competition, but the game has ben selling really well since we’ve partnered with Amazon and the prospects as we look to take it to other countries, are positive. It is so important in today’s competitive global society that children have good maths skills. Evidence shows that attainment rates are not as good as they could be and that many children have maths anxiety. The lack of maths capability is costing the UK economy £20 billion a year. Playing a fun educational game such as Race To Infinity can really help. The game has great replay ability, so like Grace’s two children, kids enjoy playing it again and again. It’s not a normal maths game; it teaches life skills including creative, analytical and critical thinking, emotional intelligence, basic coding principles, social skills, spacial awareness, logic and deductive reasoning skills ‘

In the last 12 months, the game has won three other prestigious national and international awards and has been Awarded the prestigious AmazonCHOICE BADGE and BESTSELLER by Amazon.Com & Amazon.co.uk.

Grace explains, ‘Amazon invited us to become an Amazon Partner, therefore in addition, Amazon is a distributor and now buy the game wholesale and sell retail. It’s been amazing and an award like this is just the icing on the cake.’ (or another phrase you would say)

BeGenio have big plans for the future. They are working on getting the product into additional countries such as India, Taiwan, Dubai and Japan and also intend to partner with a children’s charity. No doubt more awards and endorsements are ahead for Grace and BeGenio.

About Grace

Grace originally worked as a programmer in Investment Banking having

gained a BSc Computing degree, in which she orchestrated a 1st Class

Honours result, just through choosing the most maths-like units

wherever there was a choice. She also has an MSc in Financial

Markets.

It was during her time at University that she started volunteering to

help others with Maths, in that case her fellow students.

Beyond university she has become a National Numeracy Challenge

Champion, a speaker for Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures, and

part of the Education BP for London Borough of Tower Hamlets (all 3

are charities) She is also involved with school governance.

It was when she was selected to join the Sir John Cass Foundation

to help school children struggling with maths that she made a real

discovery about how some children suffer with maths anxiety and that

through working with them and playing maths games it can really make a

difference. Within just a couple of months Grace saw remarkable changes

in the children's results and their attitude towards maths.

This inspired Grace to want to do more and she began to create

several products to help, including her game

workshops and online materials.
