Dying well is on the cards “if we talk about it AND take action”
A new tool to help people begin one of the most difficult conversations they will ever have has been launched by international author and speaker on grief, loss and a positive approach to dying, Jane Duncan Rogers.
Her “End Of Life Planning” cards have been launched as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, which runs from 10 - 16 May. The aim of the cards is to turn end of life conversations into plans.
Jane is the author of “Gifted By Grief” and “Before I Go: The Essential Guide to Creating a Good End of Life Plan” and is a regular speaker on this most sensitive topic, including her highly regarded TedX talk, “How to do a good death”.
Through her social enterprise, Before I Go Solutions, Jane and her global network of licensed practitioners are on a mission to have end of life plans become as commonplace as birth plans.
“I believe passionately that society needs to be more open about grief, death and dying,” explains Jane, who began her mission after the death of her husband Philip in 2011, “when it became obvious that he would have had a very different experience had he not been so afraid of dying.”
“To be sticking our heads in the sand and finding these topics difficult to mention is understandable but given we are all going to be affected by them sooner or later we need to face them and more crucially, take action.
“It is my goal to open up conversations about these topics, bring them out of the closet and to help people take action. That is where the cards come in.”
The cards are currently being trialled by Jane’s network of licensed practitioners and are based on Before I Go’s popular online quiz but will be made available to the general public in July.
