Mud & Bloom encourages families to get outside this Christmas
The founder of Mud & Bloom, one of the UK’s leading educational subscription box companies, is keen to get families out of the house and into the open air this Christmas.
Anja Ffrench a mother of three based in Bristol, wants parents to remember the benefits of getting outdoors as a family during the holidays and connect with nature to avoid the Christmas slump.
She said: “Christmas is a busy time for parents who are dealing with excited, sometimes impatient children and there is less time to get outside to let off steam.
“One way of getting outside over the holidays is to wrap up in warm winter clothing, dust off your wellies and head to the local park and create your own festive fun treasure trail or scavenger hunt.
“It doesn’t matter where you live, creating your own trail, for children to spot or gather a list of items, is a great way of getting outside for an hour or so and can appeal to all ages.”
The benefits of getting outside in the fresh air over the holidays are vast – not only does it get children away from their screens and burning off some energy, it can positively impact mental and physical health.
“Christmas can leave us all feeling lethargic,” Anja explains, “and it can sometimes be a struggle to peel yourself away from the TV and leftovers.
“Spending time outdoors has many benefits for children and adults, including the release of endorphins, improved concentration, staying fit and healthy. There’s also evidence that outdoor play and learning enhances brain development and improves mental health.”
Mud & Bloom was launched earlier this year and aims to keep youngsters interested in the great outdoors through activity boxes that are posted out to subscribers at the beginning of each month. The content is aimed at three to eight-year-olds, encouraging youngsters to enjoy learning about insects, plants and the different seasons.
The special boxes include a stunning array of colourful, fun yet educational items including everything you need for four seasonal activities, things to plant and grow, nature news, spotting activities and more. Qualified teachers create the activities which support the National Curriculum.
Anja added: “I have three children and we make sure we spend time outdoors every day. The time spent outdoors puts us all into a happier frame of mind.
“While we all tend to spend more time indoor during the Christmas period, there’s lots to do outside in the open air, too.”
