Catherine Rayner

‘The Dog Show’

7th – 28th May 2022

Just a few weeks to go until the award-winning author and illustrator Catherine Rayner launches her solo exhibition ‘The Dog Show’, here at Sarah Wiseman Gallery. Catherine has been hard at work adding the finishing touches to her exhibition, which will include brand new paintings focussing on dogs in all their wonderful shapes and sizes.

‘We’re tremendously excited to show these new works in May of 2022, which will be revealed for the first time here at the gallery,’ says Sarah Wiseman, gallery director.

Catherine has chosen the dog theme, largely since becoming a dog owner herself, to Otto the miniature dachshund.

‘I’ve always loved dogs,’ she says. ‘As subjects for art or illustrations, I love the variety of breeds, the varying sizes, their expressions, textures of their fur…and the relationships they have with their owners – all of it. I’m very excited to be working on this exhibition!’

The exhibition will also feature works by local children, who have been selected as part of a drawing competition. ‘‘Draw-a-Dog’ was a way to connect with local families and get them excited about the exhibition, and feel involved,’ says Sarah.

Sarah Wiseman Gallery will prepare a fully illustrated e-catalogue featuring all available works and texts about the artist. If you’d like to receive one, email the gallery at info@wisegal.com to request a link.

‘Contradictions’

Ade Adesina RSA

11th June – 2nd July

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is delighted to announce ‘Contradictions’ a solo exhibition by the award -winning artist Ade Adesina.

In this ambitious exhibition, Ade is set to reveal one of his largest lino-cut prints to date.

Ade returns to a theme from another recent print, ‘Mirage.’ He sees a mirage as representative of ideas that are in plain sight, but hard to grasp or make sense of. Things are happening around the world every day, but like something out of the corner of your eye, you may be aware of it, but it’s beyond our true understanding. Much of Ade’s inspiration comes from global politics, although his work he says, is not political.

He has said of his process; ‘I work in a very strange way. Every print, sculpture or painting owns a story; it is like reading a novel. There are different characters coming in at different chapters. I don’t find it interesting knowing where a piece of work is going to end before I begin.’

Ade Adesina was born in Nigeria 1980. He is currently a full-time artist based in Aberdeen, Scotland. He studied printmaking at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, and was elected as a Royal Scottish Academician in 2017. He is a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of The Fine Art, The London Group and Associate Member Royal Society of Painter-printmakers. He has also Artist in Residence at Eton College & Glasgow Print Studio.

Among other accolades, Ade’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where he received the London Original Print Fair Prize.

We will be preparing a fully illustrated e-catalogue with artist texts and all available works. Email us at info@wisegal.com to request an e-catalogue link.
