Catherine Rayner
‘The Dog Show’
7th – 28th May 2022
It’s not long until we launch Catherine Rayner's solo exhibition ‘The Dog Show’, here at Sarah Wiseman Gallery. We’ve received the first images from Catherine’s studio: a delightful group portrait of some characterful canines. [pictured]
‘We’re tremendously excited to show these new works in May of 2022, which will be revealed for the first time here at the gallery,’ says Sarah Wiseman, gallery director.
Catherine has chosen the dog theme, largely since becoming a dog owner herself, to Otto the miniature dachshund.
‘I’ve always loved dogs,’ she says. ‘As subjects for art or illustrations, I love the variety of breeds, the varying sizes, their expressions, textures of their fur…and the relationships they have with their owners – all of it. I’m very excited to be working on this exhibition!’
The exhibition will also feature works by local children, who will have been selected as part of a drawing competition, launched by Sarah Wiseman Gallery. ‘‘Draw-a-Dog’ is a way to connect with local families and get them excited about the exhibition, and feel involved,’ says Sarah.
Sarah Wiseman Gallery will prepare a fully illustrated e-catalogue featuring all available works and texts about the artist. If you’d like to receive one, email the gallery at info@wisegal.com to request a link.

Our current exhibition: ‘Inner Space’
Open from 5th – 26th March
A group exhibition featuring Dawn Beckles, Kate Montgomery, Lindsey Moran, Adam Stone and Alison Pullen.
Sarah Wiseman Gallery is delighted to introduce 'Inner Space', a group exhibition of artists exploring a variety of interior spaces that are domestic, more opulent or imaginary. With our domestic lives taking so much more precedence in the last two years, our thoughts have come to focus on the importance of our most intimate surroundings.
Gallery director Sarah Wiseman says, ''The word 'home' or interior carries so many meanings. The exhibition features artists investigating interior space using a variety of media addressing a range of themes.'
Visitors can expect to see vibrant paintings by the acclaimed young artist Dawn Beckles, whose contemporary interpretations of classic still life incorporates reoccurring subject matter inspired by her native Barbados. The Brighton-based artist Kate Montgomery will also be showing new works inspired by the interior worlds of women, inspired by her early childhood.
'We'll also be introducing printmaker Lindsey Moran who explores the decadent light and space of palm houses, while Adam Stone investigates the compelling nature of abandoned or disused urban spaces', says Sarah. Gallery artist Alison Pullen presents her beautifully observed paintings of both domestic and public spaces, using a mixture of collage and drawing in situ.
'This exhibition explores what it means to be in our own space, whether that's our homes or some other place, perhaps in our dreams,' says Sarah.
Sarah Wiseman Gallery has prepared a fully illustrated e-catalogue featuring texts about each artist and all available works.
