Get fit and healthy with yoga this New Year!

New Year’s resolutions are, of course, famously far harder to stick to than they are to make. But one decision could be easier to keep than others – taking up the ancient eastern discipline of yoga as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Yoga is known for its various wellness benefits, from boosting energy and reducing stress to weight loss and improved breathing, as well as enhanced mindfulness.

Satyam Yoga & Wellbeing Centre is one place offering an authentic yoga experience, and it was set up by long-term practitioner and teacher Joanna Darking in 2016. Alongside yoga, the centre also offers Pilates and fitness and a range of inspiring workshops.

Darking says: “We’re lucky to have lots of space, and 3 really beautiful light and airy studios as well as a Wellbeing Area which hosts the only floatation pool in Cambridgeshire. Floatation therapy is a form of relaxation whereby you float in a warm pool of salt water, allowing the body to be weightless. It is growing ever more popular, with benefits which include alleviating stress and anxiety, promoting sleep, reducing pain, increasing mental performance and deepening awareness and meditative states.”

Satyam offers a variety of different yoga styles and traditions, from beginners to more experienced, alongside Pregnancy Yoga, Baby classes, classes for children and teens and Mobility-Friendly Yoga. The centre also runs weekly deep relaxation sessions, including gong sound baths and guided meditation.

There are various payment options, including a monthly pass, and gift vouchers are also available.

“We know lots of people are thinking about health and wellness as we go into 2019,” adds Darking. “Yoga could be one New Year’s resolution that you find you actively want to stick to once you’ve taken it up. We’re looking forward to welcoming new members in January.”
