Business owners get a helping hand from Start.Biz and Birmingham based students

Birmingham based Intellectual Property specialists, Start.Biz, presented revolutionary product ‘Start Business Box’ to University College Birmingham third year business students, as part of a focus group of up and coming entrepreneurs.

The UK is a hotbed of entrepreneurial activity right now with more people than ever wanting to start their own business. A recent survey found that 64% of Brits are planning to set up their own venture in the future, with 27% of those saying covid has brought forward their plans to take the leap and work for themselves. The stats are even more impressive regarding female founders, in the past 4 years the percentage of companies owned by women has nearly doubled from 17% to 33%.

With more entrepreneurs in the marketplace and fiercer competition than ever before, the need to have a business quickly, conveniently and correctly set-up is essential. This is why Start.Biz created ‘Start Business Box’, to take the hassle out of business set-up. It’s an aspiring business owners one stop shop to get complaint and connected to essential professional services, so they can get back to doing what they love.

To ensure ‘Start Business Box’ is providing everything business owners need, Start.Biz have brought together a variety of focus groups of entrepreneurs, from a diverse range of backgrounds, working in different industries. One of these sessions included speaking with Business Development students from the local University College Birmingham. Many of the students have their own side-hustles or are looking to open their own venture after graduating.

Bevan Edwards, Founder and Director of Start.Biz, comments:

‘Our mission is to help business owners conveniently and effectively set up and run their companies. These sessions provide invaluable feedback from a variety entrepreneurs. They enable us to understand the needs of our community, the challenges they face and therefore ultimately improve our offering.

We really enjoyed the session and the feedback from the students was incredible! So many talented, young, focused individuals with amazing ideas. No wonder Birmingham’s start-up scene is flourishing. We can’t wait to help these students realise their entrepreneurial ambitions and see them thrive.’

The students cited fear of getting things wrong when officially setting up and the financial risk connected to starting their own venture as the main barriers they face. This is reflected by the wider aspiring business owner community with a survey finding 39% were concerned about understanding VAT and 51% of people not setting up because of lack of funds. To combat this ‘Start Business Box’ introduces you to their accredited accountancy partner and connects subscribers to funding organisations to help get them started.

Daniel Evans CEO of BEC (Birmingham Enterprise Community) and FORWARD Programme Director said of ‘Start Business Box’:
