Tech & service start-ups unite to give aspiring entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed in tough post-covid economy.

Business service and Intellectual Property (IP) specialists Start.Biz have teamed up with innovative tech tool creator myNexus to provide pre-start business owners with key insights and practical advice.

The UK is a hotbed of entrepreneurial activity right now with more people than ever wanting to start their own business. A recent survey found that 64% of Brits are planning to set up their own venture in the future, with 27% of those saying covid has brought forward their plans to take the leap and work for themselves. The stats are even more impressive regarding female founders, in the past 4 years the percentage of companies owned by women has nearly doubled from 17% to 33%. Self-starters and small business will be essential to the recovery of the UK economy after two years of uncertainty due to covid and Brexit so equipping aspiring business owners with the tools, insights, and practical services has never been more essential.

Seeing this opportunity to help budding business owners kickstart the UK economy, Start.Biz have launched fully customisable business service packages centralising set-up for all sizes of venture and types of industry. This compliments their in-house Intellectual Property protection expertise and Access to Finance consultation services. Recognising that 90% of start-ups fail within the first five years, myNexus had in parallel set out to combine people, technology and data, to create insight driven tools designed to help everyone improve success. The myNexus Entrepreneur Skills Index (ESI) was launched in January 2022 enabling entrepreneurs to measure their strengths and weaknesses through a business simulation game. By providing users with a detailed development report, individuals and business support providers can tracks aspects of personality that could be a barrier to growth.

The two organisations met at Venture Fest West Midlands in March 2022 and after discussing both their visions for the UK start-up scene a partnership seemed destined to be.

Matthew Cusack, Co-Founder and Director of Start.Biz said -

‘We met Gaynor after she spoke at Venture Fest and we immediately hit it off, we have a similar passion for business, entrepreneurship, and a deeply practical approach when it comes to helping start-ups and business owners. The whole team has signed up to myNexus ESI and we love the insights the game has provided about each member of our cohort. It’s a fantastic tool that gives you a real insight into what kind of entrepreneur you are, helping you assess what skill sets the people you surround yourself with need to have.

Gaynor Matthews, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of myNexus said –

“The idea that anyone can start, run and grow a successful business with the right resources is core to our beliefs at myNexus so when we discovered that was the strapline of Start.Biz setting up a partnership was a ‘no-brainer’. Free open access to the myNexus ESI app helps entrepreneurs understand exactly where they need to target that support to best effect. We’re delighted to be working together to improve the business success rate and ultimately grow the UK economy.”
