Two Decades In The Fashion Industry Inspire The Creation Of A Style Consultancy With A Focus On Sustainability.

"Add Sustainability To Your List Of Wardrobe Essentials" - Charlotte Verdeyen of The Charlotte Edit.

Charlotte Verdeyen has worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years, and her experience of clothing waste during that time is one of the key drivers behind the creation of her own style consultancy, The Charlotte Edit, which launched this month.

As a designer and buyer for leading high street retailers, she has styled countless fashion shoots and gathered over 20,000 Instagram followers representing Marks and Spencer.

But £140 million pounds worth of wearable clothing goes into landfill every year, and she believes this is a statistic we cannot ignore.

She says. “I know clothes, I understand how they are designed, produced, purchased, and unfortunately “wasted”, by both retailers and consumers. Millions of items of clothing never even make it to the shop floor, but go straight to a landfill site in brand new saleable condition, and £30 billion pounds worth of clothes that have never been worn hang in UK wardrobes.”

Her intention is certainly not to stop women from shopping, but to encourage them to assess what they already have, and then shop with confidence and care (for both their appearance and their purse). She offers advice on new ways to wear clothes and different ways to put outfits together, therefore preventing clients from continually purchasing more than they need.

She continues, “I want to give clothes the life they deserve. No item should be bought to be worn only once! We talk about “cost per wear” and it doesn’t sound sexy, but with very few additions and some simple tweaks, you can wear the same things again and again.”

A mother of two, she not only wants to play her part in changing the world for the better, she also understands that women can get stuck in a rut, and lose confidence in their appearance at any point in their lives. She believes clothes have a significant impact on our mental health and self worth, saying, “Clothes can have enormous power over how we feel, and how we carry ourselves. Don’t underestimate the importance of knowing your personal style and buying and dressing accordingly”.

The Charlotte Edit gives you the opportunity to arrange wardrobe edits and shopping advice either virtually or in person, with detailed follow up contact.
